If you are struggling to get hold of pasta, why not try this Italian alternative. We’ve pulled together a simple recipe that you can make in your own home.

800g of potatoes

280g Plain flour

Serves 4

  1. Peel and chop up the potatoes into small chunks
  2. Bring a large pan of water to a boil and add the potatoes
  3. Drain the potato once it’s cooked, drain, leaving the drained water for later
  4. Mash the potato until it’s smooth
  5. Dust your worktop with flour
  6. Add the mashed potato to the work surface and slowly fold in the flour a bit at a time
  7. Try not to over fold the mixture as this will make the gnocchi chewy
  8. Once all the flour is combined with the potato divide the dough into 4 balls, roll each ball into a sausage shape about 2cms thick
  9. Slice the roll into 3cm chunks to create the gnocchi
  10. Add the drained water to a pan and bring to a boil. Lower to a simmer and add batches of gnocchi to the pan
  11. Once the gnocchi rises to the top of the water it is now cooked
  12. Remove the cooked gnocchi from the pan using a slotted spoon and repeat the process until all the gnocchi is cooked
  13. To make the gnocchi crispy, heat a frying pan and add the gnocchi until it becomes golden and crispy

Serve with your favourite tomato sauce, or for a Yorkshire twist serve with roast chicken, long stem broccoli and Yorkshire puddings as an alternative to a traditional Sunday roast.
